You Can’t Trust Me

Romans 7:14-19
I am a slave to sin.
I can’t even explain myself.
I want to do what is right,
but I don’t do it.
Instead, I do what I hate.
But if I know that what I’m doing
isn’t right,
this at least shows that I agree
that God’s commands are necessary.
For I realize
that it is no longer my true self
doing the thing I hate,
but the unwelcome intruder of sin
in my humanity.
For I know that nothing good lives
in my fallen human nature.
I want to do what is right, but I can’t.
I want to do what is good, but I don’t.
I don’t want to do what’s wrong,
but I do it anyway.

Holding On To You
Track 2 on Regional At Best
I must’ve forgot,
you can’t trust me
I’m open a moment
and closed when you show it
Before you know it I’m lost at sea
And now that I write and think about it
and the story unfolds
You should take my life,
you should take my soul
