No Matter What

2 Chronicles 29:2-7 & 11
Our ancestors were unfaithful
and did what was evil
in the sight of the Lord our God.
They abandoned the Lord
and his dwelling place;
they turned their backs on him.
They shut the doors
to the Temple’s entry room,
and they snuffed out the lamps.
They stopped burning incense
and presenting burnt offerings
at the sanctuary of God.
My children, do not neglect
your responsibilities any longer!
The Lord has chosen you
to stand in his presence,
to minister to him,
to lead others to minister to him,
and to present offerings to him.

SEVENAPPLES COMMENTARY
I captured this image in 2007.
The subject is the ceiling
of “The Dark Church”
in Cappadocia, Turkey.
This little room was painted
by 1st century Christians
who were living in caves
after fleeing persecution
by their government;
Christians who had made the decision
to keep gathering to worship
and minister to God,
no matter the cost.
