Exodus 33:18-20
Moses asked the Lord,
“Show me
your glorious presence.”
The Lord replied,
“I will make all my goodness
pass before you,
and I will call out my name,
“Yahweh,” before you.
For I will show mercy
to anyone I choose,
and I will show compassion
to anyone I choose.
But you may not look
directly at my face,
for no one may see me
and live.”

The Gospel According to Twenty One Pilots
EXCERPT FROM SERMON
Why can’t we look at God’s face?
Because the truth
of God’s great love for us
is so good, so pure, so great…
To look directly at it
would kill us.
And yet, we still want to look.
We still seek.
We still desire someone to stand up,
to us and for us,
and speak the truth in love.
Even if it hurts.
Why can’t we look at God’s face?
Because the truth
of God’s great love for us
is so good, so pure, so great…
To look directly at it
would kill us.
And yet, we still want to look.
We still seek.
We still desire someone to stand up,
to us and for us,
and speak the truth in love.
Even if it hurts.
