Philippians 3:9-11
God’s way of making us
right with himself
depends on faith—
counting on Christ alone.
So, I want to know Christ.
I want to experience the power
that raised him from the dead.
I want to suffer with him.
I want to share in his death.
That way I, too,
will be resurrected.
ADDITIONAL SCRIPTURES on SUFFERING
1 Peter 4:13-14
Friends, be very glad
about the fiery trials
you are going through.
For these trials make you partners
with Christ in his suffering,
so that you will have
the wonderful joy
of seeing his glory
when it is revealed to all the earth.
Romans 8:17-19
If we’re to share Christ’s glory,
we must share his suffering.
For what we suffer now
is nothing
compared to the glory
he will reveal to us later.
All creation is eagerly waiting
for that future day
when God will reveal
who his children really are.
2 Corinthians 4:16-18
Though our bodies are dying,
our spirits grow every day.
For our present troubles are small
and won’t last very long.
Yet they produce for us a glory
that vastly outweighs them
and will last forever!
So we don’t focus
on the sufferings we see now.
Rather, we fix our gaze
on the eternal joys to come.
James 1:2-4
When troubles of any kind
come your way,
consider it an opportunity
for great joy.
If you embrace them,
your faith will blossom
in the crushing,
and you will be perfect
and complete,
needing nothing.
2 Timothy 3:12-14
Everyone who wants to live
a godly life for Jesus Christ
will suffer persecution.
But evil people and false teachers
will flourish.
They will deceive many,
and will themselves
be deceived by Satan.
But you must remain faithful
to what you’ve been taught.
For you know that it’s true.
Matthew 26:37-38
Jesus went with his disciples
to the place of pressing,
and he said, “Sit here
while I go over there to pray.”
He became anguished and distressed.
He told them,
“My soul is crushed with grief
to the point of death.
Stay here
and keep watch with me.”
