EXCERPT FROM SERMON
Do you know what the
“weapon forged in darkness” is?
It’s your story.
Some see a pen,
but God sees a harpoon.
Our disorders and addictions.
Our depression and pride.
Insecurity. Unforgiveness. Envy.
As we begin giving these things to God,
we start to write a personal story
of mercy, rescue, and grace.
For example, I am no longer ashamed
of the decade I spent as an alcoholic.
In fact, I’m encouraged by it.
Because now it serves
as a forever reminder
of all God’s done for me.
When I was at my worst,
I asked God for help,
and he reached down and said,
“This one is mine!”
Immediately, my brokenness
was made beautiful.
My shame became my story.
My sword.
My song.
Genesis 50:20 says,
“You meant evil against me,
but God meant it for good,
in order to bring about today’s result,
so that many people
should be saved.”
Make no mistake,
We’re combatting more than temptation.
We’re battling behemoths.
And where some may look at us
and see damaged goods…
God sees dragon slayers!
