Jonah 2:7-8
When I had lost all hope,
I turned my thoughts once more
to the Lord.
And my prayer came to you
in your holy Temple.
Those who obey idols
have turned their backs
on all the mercies waiting for them
from the Lord!

This photograph of a stained glass window
features a simple saint in prayer.
Layered over the photograph
is an engraving by Gustave Dore
featuring a landscape image
of God’s Temple in ancient Jerusalem.
In the courtyard of the Temple,
just over the shoulder
of the stained glass saint,
offerings are being made.
And on top of the saint’s heart,
petitioners can be seen
walking up a stairway
to enter the House of God.
