SEVENAPPLES COMMENTARY
As I was wrapping up
a sermon last night,
something leapt in my heart
as I read Genesis 3…

…Adam and Eve
suddenly felt shame
at their nakedness.
So they sewed fig leaves together
to cover themselves.
When the cool evening breezes
were blowing,
the man and his wife heard God
walking about in the garden.
So they hid from God
among the TREES…

Immediately, I thought,
“Don’t Twenty Øne Piløts
have a song called, ‘Trees’?”
I looked up the lyrics.

“I know where you stand
silent in the trees
and that’s where I Am
silent in the trees
why won’t you speak to Me?
I can feel your breath
I can feel My death
I want to know you
I want to see you
i just want to say to you
hello”

What the what?!!

I bet that’s why they close
every show with this song.
They want the final thing we hear
to be a reminder
that no matter what we’ve done,
Jesus is with us.
Jesus loves us.
Jesus just wants to talk to us.
To encourage us.
To hold us and heal us.

Friend, let’s not let
our hiddenness hinder us anymore.
Let’s be honest with God.
Let’s step out of the shadows.
Let’s talk to him about our sin.
Let’s ask him to take it away.
Let’s take his hand
and follow him back into the light.
