I’m Higher When I’m Heavy

Matthew 5:3
God blesses those
who admit they are broken
and realize their need for him,
for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

I’m heavy, my jumpsuit is on steady
I’m lighter when I’m lower,
I’m higher when I’m heavy, oh
I’m so high, my Jumpsuit takes me so high
I’m flying from a fire,

EXCERPT FROM PRAYER TIME
August 27, 2018  //  Monday
Good morning, Father.
Thank you for today.
I pray for wisdom
with my sermon this weekend.
Last week, we talked about
how to be saved.
Where do we go from here?
I need your help.
And I need your comfort.
I’m low today.
I feel heavy.
I feel stuck in a cycle of depression.
But… I know you can help me.
You alone are my Deliverer.
I pray for joy.
I pray for a new song.
I pray for perspective.
Come, Holy Spirit.

The song says,
“I’m heavy,
my jumpsuit is on steady
I’m lighter when I’m lower
I’m higher when I’m heavy”

Are there benefits to being sad?

Ecclesiastes 7:2-4 tells us…
2 Better to spend your time
at funerals
than at parties.
After all, everyone dies—
so the living
should take this to heart.
3 Sorrow is better than laughter,
for sadness
has a refining influence on us.

4 A wise person
thinks a lot about death,

while a fool
thinks only about having a good time.

Why is sorrow better than laughter?

I think the answer’s right there
in Matthew 5:3 & 4:
(Because) God blesses those
who are poor
and realize their need for him,
for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
4 God blesses those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.

I think we’re higher
when we’re heavy,
because you are always near
to the broken-hearted.

Break our hearts, Jesus.
